The Southern California Kendo Organization would like to welcome you to our 2009 SCKO Individual Kendo Championships. Please carefully review the following pages for important information:

Entree fee: $20.00 (18 & over) $15.00 (17 & under)

Bento: $8.00 each

Youth
Boys/Girls 10 & under, All Ranks
Boys/Girls 11-13, All Ranks
Boys 14-17, 4 Kyu & under
Boys 14-17, 3-1 Kyu
Women
Women 13 & over, Kyu & under
Women 13 & over, Dan
Men
Adult (18 & over, Kyu & under)
Men 1-2 Dan
Men 3 Dan up (Any age)
Men 4 Dan up (40 years & over)

  • Each participant can enter in only one division.
  • Rank as of October 1, 200

Tournament

Time:
Youth -3 minutes w/ unlimited encho*
Womens kyu -3 minutes/ w/ unlimited encho
Adult kyu -3 minutes/ w/ unlimited encho
Women dan -3 minutes w/ unlimited encho
Men- 1-2dan – 3 minutes w/ unlimited encho
Men – 3Dan up – 4minutes w/ unlimited encho
Men – 4Dan up – 4minutes w/unlimited encho

    • 3-bon shobu matches.

* encho means time extension

INFORMATION

A PRIMARY CONTACT PERSON over 18 years old should be assigned for each team and his or her phone number or e-mail address must be listed on the application form.

Regulations of the matches will follow “The Regulation of Kendo Shiai and Shinpan” set forth by the Federation of International Kendo (FIK).

Tsuki waza is authorized for YUDANSHA DIVISION only.

Each person can only participate in one division and is responsible for bringing one’s own Me-Jirushi (Red/White indicator)

ach dojo must provide one or more shinpan (referee) for every 10 participants.

2009 SCKO Individual Tournament

BUTOKUDEN Kendo Members:

SCKO Individual Tournament is the largest Individual Tournament hosted by our Federation, and divisions are available for all ages and ranks. Last year, we won medals in various divisions. Hopefully, we can repeat that again this year. I strongly recommend participating at this tournament.

For beginners without Bogu, it will be a very good opportunity to come and watch high level skills, and cheer for your Dojo.

2009 Nikkei Games Kendo Tournament

Please find below the information regarding the 2009 Nikkei Games Kendo Tournament. Please read carefully the information below.

Date: August 16, 2009
Roll Call: 7:30 AM
Place: CSULB Pyramid

This tournament is for both Kyu and Dan divisions.
Please respond to this e-mail to kendo@butokuden.com by Thursday, July 23rd if you would like to participate at this tournament.
We also need Shinpan (referees) for this tournament (4 Dan or higher).

Tournaments
*Yudansha Divisions (Regular Tournament)
1 dan, 2 dan,3 dan,4 dan, and women’s dan
Rules: 4 minutes, unlimited Extension

*Kyu Team
0-4 Kyu Team (3 kenshi, 17 yeas of age and under)
3-1 Kyu Team (3 kenshi, 17 years of age and under)
Rules: Each dojo can submit up to 2 teams in each division
3 minutes, no extension

*Kachinuki Team
3 kenshi consisting of any combination of below mentioned:
– Adult kyu (18 years of age and older)
– Yudansha (up to 3 dan and 30 years of age and older)
Minimum of 2 kenshi per team
Taisho can not tie.  If there are any ties prior to the taisho match both participants will sit down.
No jodan, no nitto, and no tsuki
Each dojo can submit up to 2 teams

Tournament Fee:  $20.00
Officials, staff members, spectators, and volunteers have FREE admission. However, they will be asked to pay a parking fee.

Volunteer: Three courts and front desk need volunteers
