2009 SCKO Individual Tournament

BUTOKUDEN Kendo Members:

SCKO Individual Tournament is the largest Individual Tournament hosted by our Federation, and divisions are available for all ages and ranks. Last year, we won medals in various divisions. Hopefully, we can repeat that again this year. I strongly recommend participating at this tournament.

For beginners without Bogu, it will be a very good opportunity to come and watch high level skills, and cheer for your Dojo.

2009 Fall SCKO Dan/Kyu Exam Sign up Sheet

BUTOKUDEN Kendo Members:

I am trying to automate the process as much as I can, in order to minimize everyone’s work, so I would appreciate if you could fill out this form (I apologize for the double entry for people that have already sent me the information, but please re-enter.) It will automatically update my database. This promotion exam is for people eligible to apply for 6 Kyu and up, up to 4 Dan. Our Dojo minimum requirement is to have been practicing Kendo with Bogu for the last 3 months. The age requirements and Kata requirements are also listed in this link.

For people trying for 1 Kyu and up, I encourage you to start mastering the Kendo Kata from now. There is no point of just doing the Kata for exam purpose only. Kata incorporates all the basic movements in Kendo, and by mastering the Kendo Kata, your Kendo techniques will improve. If you have any questions about the Kata, please ask the Senseis and Senpais at the Dojo.

Kendo Demonstration at Seal Beach

Today, we had a Kendo Demonstration at the the Seal Beach Pier, for the Japanese Kite festival. Many of our Dojo members came to help us. Ryo, Riki, Ian, Cozo, Shion, Leon, Arata, Hiroyuki and Haruna. It was a good turn out, there were a lot of people watching. But it was kind of too windy, so the sand dust was pretty strong.

BUTOKUDEN Dojo Martial Arts Training Center

We have opened a new website for our BUTOKUDEN Dojo Martial Arts Training Center.

Now, Martial Artists in the Orange County, California have a place to enjoy practicing various styles of Japanese authentic Martial Arts in one single location, BUTOKUDEN. We have classes for all levels in Kendo, Karate, Kyudo, Jiu-Jitsu, Aikido, and Jodo. BUTOKUDEN is 100% backed by e-bogu.com, Inc., world leading Martial Arts equipment supplier, in order to promote Martial Arts to the community.

In the olden days in Japan, every major city had a place called BUTOKUDEN. This is where Martial Arts were taught to the community, and also a cultural gathering place, where children and young adults were taught the philosophy of Bushido through the Arts of Budo.

We have students from all over Los Angeles, Orange County, San Bernardino and San Diego area.
