Q1. Kendo looks hard. Can I follow?
Don’t worry. Our instructors teach you as your level. If you are beginner, you can learn how to bow, sit, or wear Hakama at first.
Q2. Who are e-bogu.com ?
e-bogu.com Inc. is a company that runs our facility, Butokuden. Butokuden Kendo members pay registration fees and tuitions to e-bogu.com. e-bogu.com also provides members uniforms and equipments with whole sale prices.
Q3. When can I visit and see your class?
You can come see any of our scheduled classes. No prior appointment is required. Check our latest class schedules at www.butokuden.com.
We also encourage you to take a free trial class as doing is better way to examine than seeing. You can join our class with any sporting outfit.
Q4. Is my child too young to start Kendo?
Our youngest member right now is 5 years old, and he is doing well.
It is good for kids to be disciplined and learn courtesy and cooperative.
Q5. Am I too old to start Kendo?
Kendo is a life time sports. Whenever you want to start Kendo, it is time to start.
Some mothers are playing Kendo with their children. Sometimes, mothers get crazy about Kendo more than their children.
Q6. How many classes per week can I attend?
We currently offer 3 class opportunities per week. It is on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday.
On Tuesday and Thursday, our instructors teach you. On the other hand, on Wednesday, it is open practice, which means you can practice whatever you want, and we have many guests from other Dojo coming on Wednesday. We encourage you to come not only on Tuesday or Thursday but also on Wednesday as you can improve much faster.
Q7. What are initial costs to become a member?
As of Nov 2009, these are the costs you usually need to start. Please be advised the amounts may change any time in future.
Registration Fee: $75
Monthly fee is depends on which class you join or which rank you are. See at http://www.butokuden.com/fees/
Shinai (Bamboo sword): $15 (Kids size), $20(Adult size)
Uniform(Kendogi & Hakama): It depends on which uniform you want to have. Ask the instructors when you join.
You either can pay by credit card or a check (payable to e-bogu.com Inc.)
Q8. What are monthly fees?
Family members get 10% discount. Please be advised the amounts may change any time in future.
You are required to a next month’s tuition at end of each month by credit card (charged automatically) or a check (payable to e-bogu.com Inc.)
You should pay on 25th as the monthly fee of next month. For example, you will pay March monthly fee on February 25th
Q9. Are there any other costs to be required?
After you practice for couple of month, the instructor will allow you to put on your Bogu. It costs at least $220. Your instructor will advise you which one is good for you.
And you need to sign up for SCKO, which stands for Southern California Kendo Organization. The annual fee is $70 (Adult) or $45 (Child).
Also we have many tournaments you can join. Or you will take a promotion exam. Both of them cost.
