CONTACT e-mail: kyudo@butokuden.com NEWS In early July, seven kyudoka from Butokuden, along with fifteen from Nanka Kyudo Kai, traveled to Spartanburg, South Carolina to attend the annual American Kyudo Seminar. The International Kyudo Federation sent 3 Hanshi Hachidan instructors from Japan to teach and administer the ranking tests. In all, 86 people from all across America and Canada came to further their knowledge of kyudo, re-kindle old friendships and create new ones. With excellent instruction from Kubota sensei, Satake sensei and Uozumi sensei we all gained new insight into how to improve our technique. The ranking test consists of a written test and a shooting test. The test for Renshi consists of a written and shooting test, and if you pass the first part, then you are asked to do an oral test in front of the three sensei and another shooting test. Among those from Butokuden that passed their exams are Toshitsugu Fujimura, nikyu, David Sperber, ikkyu, Louie Kawamoto, Shodan, Satoshi Tsukada, Shodan, Aaron Fay, Sandan, and Douglas Sakurai, Renshi. The rank of Renshi is the first of three teaching ranks and the highest rank you can test for outside of Japan. Currently, there are only 11 renshi in the United States and Canada. Congratulations to all of those that passed their tests!!! |
