56th Annual San Jose Tournament (May 20, 2018) Registration Form

The tournament will be held Sunday, May 20th, 2018, at Leigh High School, main gym.

All participants must check in by 8:30am. The tournament will begin promptly at 9am. There is no entry fee, but your generous donations are greatly appreciated.

PLEASE NOTE: Categories subject to change depending upon the number of entries.

  1. Youth 10 yrs and under
  2. Youth 11-13 yrs old
  3. Youth 14-17 yrs old (kyu only)
  4. Adult Kyu, 18 yrs and up
  5. Open Women (any rank, 14 yrs and up)
  6. Over 40 Women (any rank, 40 yrs and up) May also register in open women’s division, however, depending on the number of participants, may be restricted to one division.
  7. 1-2 Dan
  8. 3 Dan and up
  9. Seniors (50 yrs old and up, any rank)
  10. Participants will be allowed to enter one (1) individual and one (1) team category only. Except women over 40 may enter both Over 40 Women and Open Women’s division. However, depending on the number of participants, may be restricted to one division.
  11. Youth Team: 5 person team. 17 yrs and under, Kyu only. 2 Teams allowed
  12. Women’s Team: 3 woman team (14 yrs and up). 2 teams allowed.
  13. Adult Team: 5 person team. 2 Teams allowed.
  14. Dojo must have 2 members to have a team (Senpo and Taisho). A member from another dojo may be added to an incomplete team by tournament organizers.

Competition Information:

  • Youth – 3 minutes / Unlimited Encho (Extension)
  • Adult – 3 minutes / Unlimited Encho (Extension)
  • Yudansha (Black Belt) – 4 minutes / Unlimited Encho (Extnesion)
  • Each participant can enter in only one division
  • Rank and Age as of April 29th, 2018

Regulations of the matches will follow “The Regulation of Kendo Shiai and Shinpan” set forth by the Federation of International Kendo (FIK). Tournament rules may be subject to change by the WKF Tournament Committee.

  • Fees: $20 (non-refundable) 
  • Lunch: $10 (*Lunch will be provided by WKF for all Shinpans and volunteers.)

Dear Arata’s Friends:

Our Dojo member, Arata Ogikubo, has passed away on November 22,  2017, due to a car accident. We will hold a Memorial Keiko for Arata as follows. I hope anyone that has crossed swords with Arata can join us at this memorial Keiko and remember him.

6. Applicants Must Bring: All ranks must bring own Kendo-gu, neat Keiko-gi and Hakama, and Shinai.
3 Kyu and Up, bring Bokuto for taking “Bokuto Keiko hou” (Training Method for fundamental kendo techniques with Bokuto) and Nihon Kendo Kata exams.
1 Kyu and Up, bring completed Written Test Questionnaire.

3 Dan: Gokaku-keiko (one who is superbly skilled and has expertise in the basics of kendo), Nihon Kendo Kata 1-10, and written examination
4 Dan: Gokaku-keiko (one who is exceptionally skilled and has mastered the basics and applied use of kendo), Nihon Kendo Kata 1-10, and written examination
8. Volunteers Required: Please see attached volunteer request letter

(*1) All 1 Kyu and 1-4 Dan taking the exam must complete the attached written examination prior to the exam date. They must submit this on the day of the exam. Written examination is the last state of your promotion exam.
(*2) Please distribute copies of attached Written Test Questionnaire to your dojo members for this purpose.
(*3) Examinees who successfully pass all stages of the rank exam MUST pay Certificate (Menjo) fee at the day of the exam, after the results are announced. Without paying the certificate fee on the day of the exam, the passed rank will be annulled.
(*4) AUSKF issues only English certificates.
(*5) All examinees must be a member of AUSKF and pay their annual fee before submitting for examination.
